Darfur Follow-ups: Port Sudan
A diplomatic source revealed that the UAE Foreign Ministry gave Sudanese diplomats, whom it considered undesirable persons, a 72-hour deadline to leave its territory.
The UAE Foreign Ministry’s decision included The Sudanese military attache, Brigadier General Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Al-Bashir and Deputy Sudanese Military Attache, Lieutenant Colonel Mudathir Osman and Cultural Attache, Mr. Mohamed Al-Dhai .
The source expected that the Sudanese Foreign Ministry would officially announce in the coming hours the expulsion of three diplomats based on the principle of reciprocity.
The Darfur 24 website revealed that the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Sudanese ambassador to Abu Dhabi, Ambassador Abdul Rahman Sharafi, and informed him of its decision to consider the military attaché, his deputy, and the cultural attaché at the Sudanese embassy as persona non grata.
This step comes after the statements of Lieutenant General Yasser Al-Atta, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in which he accused the UAE of supporting the Rapid Support Forces and described the UAE as a mafia state.
Observers considered the UAE’s decision to expel the diplomats a proactive decision after the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs threatened a few days ago to take punitive measures against the UAE.
