Darfur Follow-ups: Doha
The US special envoy to the Horn of Africa, Michael Hammer, said that the situation in Sudan is terrible.
“If Al-Burhan and Hemedti do not stop, we are heading towards dividing Sudan.
The division that awaits Sudan if the warring parties continue their positions will be worse than Libya.” Michael Hammer added at the Doha Forum: “Burhan and Hemedti’s actions must reflect their commitments.”
He explained that the peace talks in Jeddah regarding Sudan had reached a stalemate, noting that Jeddah was the only place where the Sudanese parties agreed to meet in the presence of the United States and Saudi Arabia, “and without Jeddah there would be no peace talks.”
He concluded by saying: “We, like the United States, along with the United Nations, are working to support IGAD’s efforts in cooperation with the African Union and our Saudi partners, to work in Jeddah for a ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid.”
