Darfur follow-ups: Juba
The FFC coalition called on the President of the Sovereign Council, Sudanese Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Rapid Support Commander Mohamed Hamdan to hold a direct meeting with the coalition to discuss the road map to ending the war while the Juba talks brought together the alliance and Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) are pressing for a cessation of war and a re-establishment of a broad coalition and have conducted a regional tour during which they met with the leaders of these States.
The Freedom and Change Coalition sent a letter to Burhan in which it named senior coalition leader Taha Osman Yitzhak as a channel of communication between the parties in order to arrange for a direct and open meeting.
The coalition said in the speech that it wished to discuss “a preliminary draft of a road map to end the war, directly, to be developed by the parties as a pure Sudanese solution.”
The aim of that solution was to end the war and establish a sustainable peace and a democratic civilian transformation in which the people would manage themselves without violence, exclusion or discrimination.
A reliable source from the Sudan Tribune Freedom and Change Coalition said that a separate letter had also been sent to RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan “Hemeti”, considering the leak of the letter sent to Burhan as an attempt to impede the process and sabotage the coalition’s steps seeking to stop the war.
Initiatives to end the war in the Sudan have been numerous, with no tangible progress other than the Jeddah platform mediated by Saudi Arabia, America, the African Union and IGAD.
The FFC said in the speech that the war threatened the Sudan’s cohesion, cost it thousands of dead, millions of displaced persons and refugees, and committed atrocious crimes, as well as tearing up the social fabric and destroying infrastructure and productivity.
She stressed that the only way out of war was to renounce war solutions and choose a peaceful and negotiated solution that addressed the issues that had led to the outbreak of hostilities and addressed the catastrophic consequences of them.
In the context of efforts to end the war, a delegation of Freedom and Change held a meeting Wednesday with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Miyadrit at the Juba capital’s presidential headquarters, attended by senior leaders of the southern Sudanese government.
Freedom and Change said that the delegation had provided an explanation to Salva Kiir on the developments of the crisis in the Sudan and presented her vision of stopping the war and finding a political solution leading to a single army and democratic civilian rule.
